Tony Spinelli

Cybersecurity and Risk Management Expert, Per Scholas National Board Member

Tony Spinelli has spent his entire 25+ year career devoted to advancing, developing, and growing cybersecurity and risk management capabilities through roles as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for some of the world’s most critical companies and in advisory roles to US National Security interests.

Most recently, Mr. Spinelli was Senior Vice President, CISO of Information Security and Risk Management for Capital One Financial Corporation where he led advancements in cloud security, cybersecurity analytics and operations, and the engineering cybersecurity solutions to support the company’s Digital agenda. Prior to joining Capital One, he also served as CISO of Tyco International, Equifax, and First Data Corporation.

In these roles, Mr. Spinelli brings a strong background of talent development and acquisition to achieve cutting edge innovation. Key to his success has been the ability to build world class cybersecurity risk management programs by engineering talent pipelines and providing a roadmap for developing leaders and all levels of his organization.

Much of this success led to Mr. Spinelli being honored to be appointed in 2008 to the National Security Agency Advisory Board where he currently holds an active Top Secret security clearance. He also holds two patents in Data Loss Prevention and Network Security.

Mr. Spinelli is a graduate of St. Louis University and he also received his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, including residencies at Fudan University in Shanghai, China and Tanaka Business School in London, England.

Away from work Mr. Spinelli spends his time with his wife Uttara and their children, Teresa, Anthony, and Luca. He also devotes his time to ‘Stop Hunger Now’ humanitarian relief efforts; diversity and equality causes through leadership with YearUp, Women In Technology and Per Scholas, where he also serves on the Board of Directors.
